That Elusive Spark

This was a digital collage submitted to the Special Agent Collage Collective site for the “Why Art?” Challenge.

In this piece I was trying to visualize the creative process. The four stages of creativity are listed in the lower left. ( “Preparation, Incubation, Illumination, and Verification”) In the upper left I was trying to convey that sensation of drawing a complete blank, the struggle to create. Elsewhere there are lightbulbs, gears, a bridge being built, fireworks, and a spark plug. All imagery trying to illustrate a concept being created. The Eureka Moment.

And I included the Dutch masterpiece “River Landscape with Riders” (Aelbert Cuyp) as an illustration of the old “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink” phrase. It highlights the idea that individuals must choose to act (create ideas) on their own.
