Road Trip Illustration

The art directer was looking for something very festive and light-hearted. This was for a cover, so I wanted to include a lot of detail. I tried to include as many of the items mentioned in the copy as possible. The authentic array of snacks on the dashboard are all mentioned in the copy. An old car ad is the main element, but I added the sky and the water too, I think.

The girl was a scan from an old Montgomery Wards catalog. I shifted the color of the top to green.

Here’s the original scans of the hat and the guy. For this torso I took a photo of myself wearing one of my favorite shirts. I couldn’t find anything that was a good fit in my catalogs and magazines.
