Burning Rivers CD Packaging

I have occasionally designed band CD and LP packaging. It doesn’t happen very often, so it’s always a special occasion. My connection with these guys was Joshua Medaris, who had previously in a band called Citizens Utilities, and I had done most of their packaging. And he was nice enough to invite me to work on something for his new project.

I think Joshua did want some sort of church scene, some sort of image that would evoke loneliness or solitude, and a literal translation of the album title. They were receptive to a pretty abstract  concept, and I wanted to play with scale. A giant hand seemed pretty obvious to me.

I found these great interior and exterior shots of this abandoned church online, the old mannequin hand was from my bathroom.
