This was another great collage challenge concept over at Contemporary Collage Magazine. “1960s” was wonderfully vague, you could go anywhere with this project.
I felt obligated to include major historical milestones from the decade. The JFK television image in the upper right. The Bell Huey helicopter over Vietnam. And of course the Project Mercury capsule, from the early years of the space race. Technology also made great advances, so I added the TV console and the camera ad.
A nice car was necessary, and in the upper right is a top 50 hits listing, with Elvis Presley’s “Stuck on You” at number one.
And of course I had to include the Space Needle, which is a few blocks away from my apartment. It is now surrounded by ugly condo buildings, but the ‘needle is still a dramatic piece of architecture.
