Publicis in the West had just picked up the Washington Apple Commission, and art director Rob Rich wanted me to create a series of detailed and colorful fruit crate labels. these crate label images would end up in the corner of a series of full page ads.
I spent a lot of afternoons staring intently at a collection of labels that I bought at antique stores. Rob obsessed over the fonts, the leading and kerning, color palettes, the subtle blur on the text and the uneven color. Working with Rob actually changed the way I approach my own projects.
